Definition
Competitive analysis means studying rival apps to find where they win, where they fail, and where you can stand out.
For app makers, a rival's reviews are one of the richest sources. They tell you, in users' own words, what people love about the rival and what drives them away. You can read them for free, at any time.
A simple review-based analysis compares a few apps on the same points: rating, top praise, top complaints and top requests. A free App Teardown gives you these for any app, and our compare pages put two apps side by side.
What to look for
Look for complaints that show up across several rivals, and that none of them has fixed. Look at praise too. It tells you which features people expect from every app in the category.
Example
You compare three meal-planning apps. All three get praise for their recipes. All three get complaints about grocery lists that don't sync. That shared weak spot is your opening.
